We always have a nosh or trail mix on hand. It is a great way to add more nutrition to your diet, while still eating your favorite foods.
Roasting or baking (heating) nuts and seeds damages their nourishing essential fats, vitamins and live enzymes. These nutrients help keep your immune system strong, your hair and skin silky and smooth, your joints lubricated, and your cell walls strong and fluid. They also make you feeeel better, by providing nutrients that calm and relax you.
Nuts and seeds are packed full of valuable nutrients like zinc, used by many cells in your body, used by your immune system to fight pathogens and by your reproductive system for the manufacture of steroid hormones, like estrogen, progesterone and testosterone. Without adequate zinc, you can be prone to infections, acne and other problems. Nuts and seeds also help you to maintain a level blood sugar while you feel full and satisfied, so are perfect for losing weight or keeping you at your optimum weight level.
A large variety of naturally dried fruits adds delicious flavor, quick and readily available simple sugars, fiber, vitamins, minerals and enzymes. Commercially prepared fruits are preserved with sulfur dioxide, so be sure to read labels, and purchase only organic, naturally dried fruits, without added sulphites.
Here’s our favorite mix, everything is raw, organic…and delicious!
- Brazil Nuts
- Cashews
- Pistachios
- Pecans
- Pumpkin Seeds
- Sunflower Seeds
- Dried Cranberries
- Raisins
- Banana Chips
- Good pinch of unrefined sea salt
Mix it all up and store in a glass jar. If you will have the mix longer than two or three days, just keep it in the refrigerator. If there are little people living in your house, take them to the store with you and let them pick out their own favorites to mix and keep in a separate container.
Happy noshing!
