Make Your Own Nourishing Lip Balm, It’s Simple and Easy
Lip balm is one of the easiest cosmetics to make at home with natural ingredients, and it’s fun to mix your own flavors and scents.
Making your own cosmetics is not only safer, but more cost effective too. Good quality lip balms can cost $4 or 5 dollars for a small pot. You can easily make enough for your whole family or give them as gifts. The addition of the antioxidant Vitamin E, helps to preserve the ingredients. Keep extra pots in the refrigerator for up to 3 months.
You can shred beeswax with the serrated edge of a knife, or keep a shredder and use it for wax only. Beeswax is sold in health food stores and cosmetic suppliers in a beaded form. The cheapest way to purchase beeswax is straight from the beekeeper. Some health food stores sell tiny glass lip balm pots, or you can find them online from cosmetic suppliers.
Warning
Be careful of nut allergies when using sweet almond oil. You can increase the quantities of ingredients in any of the recipes to make a larger batch. There are several essential oils safe to use for lip balm. These include any oils from edible plants, including orange, lemon, lime, spearmint, or oils from the medicinal plants like calendula and chamomile.
