I want to share an amazing recipe for raw nuts with you. They are so delicious, and super healthy too. Raw nuts are packed full of essential oils like Omega 3, 6, and 9, and the oily antioxidant Vitamin E. They provide abundant fibre, great for the health of your digestive system. They are rich in nutrients that keep your skin glowing and your hair shining. They help your brain and nervous system function optimally and they help your immune system fight disease.
Dry, raw nuts are coated in enzyme inhibitors which delay the sprouting process until conditions are ideal for growth. Enzyme inhibitors hamper your digestion and their acids contribute to kidney stones and other buildups in the body. In small amounts, they aren’t troublesome, but it’s best to soak your nuts overnight to remove these mild toxins.
You will need a dehydrator for this recipe.
If you don’t own one, I suggest you borrow one to make this recipe because I promise, you’ll be out buying one in no time.
3 cups raw nuts
1/2 cup maple syrup
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp ginger
1/2 tsp nutmeg
1/2 tsp sea salt
Take one cup each of three kinds of raw nuts, or use all one nut. In the photo I’ve used just walnuts, but pecans and macadamia nuts are delicious this way too.
Soak the nuts overnight in a large pot of water.
Rinse and pat the nuts dry with a clean cotton towel.
Place them in a bowl with a lid. Pour maple syrup over top, then sprinkle with cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, and salt. Put a lid on the bowl and shake until all the nuts are evenly coated.
Cut parchment paper to cover dehydrator trays.
Place nuts onto trays and pour any remaining maple syrup over them. Dehydrate overnight or until dry to the touch. Keep the temperature at 115 Fahrenheit or lower to preserve nutrition. It takes longer to dehydrate this way, and it’s more nutritious in the long run.
Let cool, then store in a glass jar, but they won’t last long!
These make nice gifts in medium sized mason jars with a cotton fabric topping.
