Basic Green Smoothie

Basic Green Smoothie Photo [1]Use this smoothie as the base for all your smoothies. It’s so simple, one banana, a handful of greens and water. Green smoothies can be the catalyst to a healthy body. They are so easy to make and taste so delicious you’ll want one at least once a day. Rich dark greens provide an abundance of the nutrients lacking in most people’s diets. Have fun adding fresh or frozen fruits, ground flax seeds, or other vegetables like celery. If you have no fresh raw greens on hand, keep a bottle of green supplement to add to your smoothie instead.

My favorite variation on the basic green smoothie is the Chai Green Smoothie [2], which adds three spices, cinnamon, cardamom and ginger.

1 organic banana
1 large handful of fresh organic greens
(mix it up: spinach, kale, chard, beet greens, arugula, romaine, leaf lettuce, etc.)
1 small handful raw nuts or seeds or 2 tablespoons of flax or hemp oil
(mix it up: use cashews, slivered almonds, macadamia nuts, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds)
1 glass fresh water
Blend until smooth and creamy

Tip: Green Smoothies make excellent popsicles for little people.
